The SBR Performance Balance Shaft Elimination (BSE) kit deletes the balance shafts from your GM Ecotec. That takes about 5 lbs off the rotating assembly and removes the drag of driving two shafts whose only job is canceling vibration. The engine revs quicker and gives back the power it was spending on them.
What It Does
The factory balance shafts in the 2.0L, 2.2L, and 2.4L Ecotec smooth out vibration for daily driving comfort. In a race build they cost you power and add about 5 lbs of rotating mass. Deleting them lets the engine rev quicker and hold RPM with less parasitic drag.
What's Included
Two CNC-machined aluminum bushings that press into the block to seal the oil passages left behind after the balance shafts are removed. The kit does not include idler shafts. You will modify your existing idler shafts by cutting them at the point just past the flanged section before installing the bushings.
Installation Notes
This is engine-apart work, so it belongs with a rebuild or a bottom end swap rather than a bolt-on afternoon. The aluminum bushings must be pressed into the block properly to seal the oil passages. This is a builder-level modification. If you're not comfortable with engine disassembly and press-fit work, have a machine shop handle the installation. Contact us if you have questions about the process before purchasing.
Compatibility
Fits 2.0L, 2.2L, and 2.4L GM Ecotec engines. Compatible with Chevrolet Cavalier, Pontiac Sunfire, Saturn Ion, Chevrolet Cobalt, Pontiac G5, and other Ecotec-powered GM vehicles.
